Scadbury Park Local Nature Reserve

Following the death in 1975 of John Marsham-Townshend, the last resident Lord of the Manor, Thomas’s two daughters inherited the estate.
The estate was bought in 1983 by the London Borough of Bromley and is now managed as a farm and local nature reserve.

The official opening ceremony was held on 30 April 1985 and attended by about 400 people. The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor R D Foister, the Chairman of the Greater London Council, Illtyd Harrington, and representatives of local voluntary groups planted three trees to mark the occasion. The trees, a London plane, horse chestnut and English oak stand on the edge of the picnic area.

The dress code seems rather permissive and it is to be hoped it was a warm day.

Orpington and District Archaeological Society (ODAS) has been excavating the moated Manor site since 1986.
